Happy 2009!

A new day, a new year!

There always seems to

be such promise in the

air on the first day of a

new year.

I needed to take Lexie to

Petsmart for a bath and

thought it might be fun to take our friend William with me.

He's 5. We enjoyed walking around the store looking at the

fish, hamsters, birds and all. On the way to pick up William

and his car seat, I drove through the intersection where a

4 year old friend of William's was killed in a tragic car accident

a few weeks ago. I will always think of little Brett when I

drive through that intersection.

But today, I was also thinking of my friend Ann, William's

mom. William is their only child and they love that little guy

to pieces! Yet Ann was about to allow me to drive her son

in my car, knowing we would be passing through that

intersection that has become so emotional for everyone who

knew Brett. It occurred to me how much trust Ann was

placing in me to take care of William as well as she would.

I hugged Ann before William and I left for our little adventure

and said, "I will be very careful". She knew what I was referring

to since that accident is still fresh in her family's mind. She

whispered in my ear, "I know you will."

Trust... it is so fragile, yet so strong.
